CATRIN FINCH & AOIFE NÍ BHRIAIN | NILS WÜLKER & ARNE JANSEN double concert

Another double concert in the eastPLUGGED® series was a huge success.

Before their eastPLUGGED® performance, hardly anyone of the audience knew the DUO of Welsh harpist CATRIN FINCH and Irish violinist AOIFE NÍ BHRIAIN (apart from a performance at the Elbphilharmonie, it was only their second gig in Germany). After the concert, which received a standing ovation from the audience, both had gained a large new fan base. In between, they thrilled all of us with music that neither of them wanted to categorize, including irish and welsh , classic, Jazz and other elements, which repeatedly caused emotional moments. All the pieces were performed virtuosically, with numerous surprises in terms of sound and rhythm, so that harp and fiddle merged into a wonderful symbiosis, … and all this unplugged. Aoife (pronounced Efe), who studied in Germany, and Catrin, whose mother went to school in Ratingen, showed great empathy in their presentations of the pieces they played.

In the second part, trumpeter NILS WÜLKER and guitarist ARNE JANSEN convinced with their also atypical instrumental DUO and pieces from their current album “In Concert” and a piece from “GO,” which they had presented as a quartet two years ago. After the acoustically played first concert, the audience had to get used to the electronic sound but then: pure joy with the combination of an extremely precise trumpet sound and a dynamic electric guitar in pieces such as “highline” and “Wanderlust” (Jonny Cash) or acoustic guitar in ‘Beyond the Bavarian Sky’, a reinterpretation of Pat Metheny's and Charly Haden's ‘Beyond the Missouri Sky’. In addition, there were numerous wonderful original compositions by Nils and Arne.

This memorable double concert ended with a world premiere, when all four artists jammed with an amazing improvisation and gave the audience goose bumps.

Even the weather did not want to be outdone on this wonderful evening and was mild and dry during the culinary interval with snacks, wine and ice cream.

Thanks a million, tausend Dank (eigentlich dann auch Million Dank) to Aoife, Catrin, Nils and Arne for this great eastPLUGGED® concert night.
